History 8 Essay Lesson 145, Steve Jobs

This History essay will be on Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs was adopted at birth by Paul and Clara Jobs in San Francisco, California in 1955. When he was in school, he was the top of his class, the teachers and officials at the school recommended Steve be moved up to grades, but his parents only moved him up one grade. In school he was bullied so much that he told his parents to either homeschool him or move somewhere with a better school district, so they moved to Los Altos, California. While he was in high school, he met Steve Wozniak, and the two became friends. After graduating high school in 1972, he enrolled at Reed College, which was an expensive school that his parents could not afford very easily. Jobs was in college only one year before he decided that his parents money was going to waste and dropped out of college. He spent the next three years travelling around, and he even lived in India for 7 months. The only thing about college that Jobs did enjoy was the calligraphy class that he would drop in on, even though that was not one of the classes he was supposed to be taking. That class is what inspired him to create computers. He began practicing Zen Buddhism and joined a counterculture that experimented with drugs. He got a project in 1974 from the game company Atari, which he asked his friend Wozniak to help him with. Jobs was paid $5,000 for a game that couldn’t even be replicated on an assembly line. Wozniak invented the Apple 1 computer in 1976 and showed it to Jobs, and they started Apple Computer Inc. Jobs was in charge of the business side of the company while Wozniak and a few other friends were in charge of making the computers themselves. The mouse for the computer was created by Apple Computer Inc when Jobs thought of the idea of being able to interact with the stuff on the screen instead of just having a keyboard. They later changed their name to Apple Inc. He was kicked out of Apple in 1985 over a dispute about the direction of the company and had to find new work somehow. After being kicked out of Apple, Jobs created a another computer company called NeXT. He also bought the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm and changed its name to Pixar. Pixar has released many feature animated films. Jons was able to return to Apple due to the fact that NeXT was bought by Apple and was nearly bankrupt. He was married to Laurene Powell and fathered four children, three with Powell and one with his high school girlfriend. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2011, but his company’s of Apple and Pixar are still some of the most famous entertainment companies ever.
